Azerbaijan, Baku, April 9 / Trend S. Agayeva /
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Egypt called on its citizens to be careful due to the recent unrest in the country.

The Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Egypt has warned the citizens temporarily staying in this country about the potential danger due to the recent riots in Cairo and other cities. It urged them to be careful, Azerbaijani ambassador to Egypt, Shahin Abdullayev, told Trend.

The diplomatic mission sent SMS to all Azerbaijani citizens staying in Egypt. It urged them to avoid the crowded places and be careful, ambassador said.

The Egyptian military clashed with demonstrators at Tahrir Square in the center of Cairo on Saturday night. The demonstrators demanded to prosecute former President Hosni Mubarak and other officials.

The clashes continued until 7:00 local time on Saturday.

Azerbaijani citizens, who previously left the country after the events in February, have already returned to Egypt.

Azerbaijan was one of the counties which evacuated Azerbaijani citizens from Egypt during the massive anti-governmental protests against former President Mubarak.

Hosni Mubarak was forced to resign on February 11 in the midst of massive anti-governmental protests in Egypt. Since then, he and his family live in Sharm el-Sheikh. On February 28 the Prosecution General's office banned the former president and members of his family to leave the country. At present, the corruption cases, in which the ex-president may be involved, are under investigation. No formal charges were brought against him.
