ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, Nov. 25
By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
The installation and commissioning of technological equipment at the drinking water production plant has been completed in the Halach district of the Lebap region of Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
The plant is being built near the Esenmengli main canal, originating from the Amu Darya river.
The water treatment complex, with a design capacity of 30,000 cubic meters of high-quality drinking water per day, was built as part of the general program to provide Turkmenistan with clean drinking water, the report said.
The work is also underway to lay water supply networks with a total length of about 80 kilometers to settlements.
Water treatment facilities in the region operate in the Koytendag, Charjev, Farab, Khojambaz districts alongside a major drinking water plant in Turkmenabat city. Construction of similar facilities is carried out in Darganat, Dyanev, Sakar and Dovletli districts.
In Central Asia, the main sources of water resources used for agriculture and industry, electricity production and supplying the population with drinking water are rivers, and almost all of them are transboundary.
Turkmenistan borders with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Afghanistan and uses water resources coming in accordance with the agreed quotas from four transboundary rivers Amu Darya, Tejen, Atrek and Murghab.
