The negotiations on the purchase of Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport are still underway, a representative of TAV Airports Holding told Trend.
The negotiations were announced in Nov. 2019 as the consortium formed by Turkish TAV Airports (of which Groupe ADP owns 46.1 percent of the capital) and VPE Capital operating in Kazakhstan and Russia, started discussions with the owner of Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport regarding the airport’s potential acquisition.
As noted by the TAV Airports Holding representative earlier, this year the company was planning to come to a conclusion in 1Q2020, however that did not happen.
The official said that although the specific date of reaching conclusion cannot be named as of now due to a number of reasons, TAV Airports is hoping to conclude the agreement soon.
In Nov. 2019, co-founder and CEO of TAV Airports Holding Sani Shaner said that the holding was looking to complete the acquisition of the Almaty International Airport in January 2020.
TAV Airports, one of the world’s leading airport operators, operates Antalya, Ankara Esenboğa, Izmir Adnan Menderes, Milas Bodrum and Gazipaşa Alanya airports in Turkey.
Tbilisi and Batumi airports in Georgia, Monastir and Enfidha-Hammamet airports in Tunisia, Skopje and Ohrid airports in Macedonia, Madinah Airport in Saudi Arabia and Zagreb Airport in Croatia are also operated by TAV Airports.
Due to introduction of the emergency state in Kazakhstan to battle coronacvirus spread in the country, as well as introduction of the quarantine regime in Kazakhstan's Almaty city, the Almaty Internartion Airport has temporarily suspended its operations.
