Slight increase in Uzbekistan’s electricity production in first quarter of 2013

In January-March 2013, Uzbekistan increased the production of electricity by 5.1 per cent up to 13,965 billion kilowatt hours compared with the same period in 2012, a source in government circles told Trend on Wednesday.

According to the report, Uzbek power plants have provided 5.949 million Gcal of heating energy to the population and enterprises of the republic (down 6.9 per cent) during this period.

In 2012, electricity production in the country increased by 0.2 per cent compared to 2011 up to 52.534 billion kilowatt hours. Uzbekistan's power plants provided 18,876 million Gcal of heat energy to the population and enterprises (down 0.2 per cent).

Currently, there are 45 Uzbek energy power plants with a total capacity of approximately 12.4 megawatts, including Uzbekenergo's 16 power stations with a total capacity of 12.04 megawatts.

Power plants belonging to Uzbekenergo, which was established under the Ministry of Electricity and Electrification of Uzbekistan, produce more than 98 per cent of electricity produced in Uzbekistan.

The remaining part of electricity is generated by the autonomous thermal power stations of industrial enterprises and small hydroelectric power stations belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
