BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 22. Romania plans to organize a meeting in Bucharest in September 2024 between the foreign ministers and transport ministers of Azerbaijan, Romania, Georgia, and Turkmenistan on a new project of the Caspian Sea-Black Sea transport corridor, Trend reports.
“Work is underway on a draft quadripartite agreement between the governments of Romania, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan on an international transportation route that will make a great contribution to the development of cargo transportation and logistics between Central Asia and Europe,” Romanian media wrote.
The idea of this corridor project was voiced by Romania back in July 2018 during negotiations with Turkmenistan, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, its implementation was postponed.
“Since 2024, Romania has intensified negotiations on this transport project and is preparing a meeting in September in Bucharest, having received approval in connection with it from all participants,” the media wrote.
This multimodal corridor is designed to connect the ports of Constanta, Poti, Baku, and Turkmenbashi, in fact becoming a bridge between the Middle Corridor and the “Lazuli Corridor” (Türkiye, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan).
Türkiye, Bulgaria, and Ukraine have already expressed interest in the project.
