Iran's South Pars Company boosts nation's network gas supplies

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 28. Iran's South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) increased its gas supply to the national network by two percent during 10 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through January 19, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), Executive Director of South Pars Gas Company Gholamabbas Hosseini told reporters, Trend reports.

Hosseini said that the SPGC has supplied 165 billion cubic meters of gas to the national gas network during the reporting period.

The official highlighted that nearly 600 million cubic meters of gas are processed at the 13 processing plants of the SPGC, and the company processes 73 percent of the gas in the country’s energy basket.

He also pointed out that in 10 months, the company produced two million tons of butane, three million tons of propane, 1.5 million tons of ethane, 500 thousand tons of sulfur, and over 201 million barrels of gas condensate.

Moreover, Hosseini added that during this period, over 127 million barrels of gas condensate were sent from SPGC to the Persian Gulf Star Oil Company and 3.5 million barrels of gas condensate to Nouri Petrochemical Company for processing.

The South Pars Gas Company processes rich gas extracted from the South Pars gas field. It receives 650 million cubic meters of rich gas daily from the mentioned field. Of this, 580 million cubic meters of gas are processed and delivered to the country’s gas network. Additionally, the company produces 780,000 barrels of gas condensate, 15,000 tons of ethane, 15,000 tons of propane, 10,000 tons of butane, and 2,500 tons of sulfur daily.

The South Pars Gas Field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar. The field holds an estimated 51 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves, with around 36 trillion cubic meters potentially recoverable. Iran’s share in this field is approximately 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
