BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16. Azerbaijan continued its active cooperation with leading trading partners from January through August 2025, increasing imports from five countries, with China remaining the leader in imports, over the eight months, with goods worth approximately $2.88 billion.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that Russia ranks second with imports valued at $2.53 billion. Türkiye holds the third position, exporting goods worth $1.55 billion to Azerbaijan. The United States is fourth, with imports totaling $754 million, while the United Kingdom ranks fifth with imports of $688 million.
Meanwhile, imports from all these countries experienced growth compared to the same period last year. Imports from China increased by $603.4 million, a 26.5 percent rise. Russia's exports grew by $347.1 million (15.9 percent), Türkiye’s exports rose by $46.8 million (3 percent), and both the US and the UK also saw notable increases, $101 million and $510.2 million, respectively. Notably, imports from the UK nearly quadrupled compared to the previous year.
The information from the State Customs Committee shows that Azerbaijan conducted trade operations with 173 countries from January to August, totaling $32.1 billion.
The total trade turnover amounted to $15.2 billion in exports and $13.6 billion in imports. Year-over-year, exports decreased by 5.4 percent, while imports increased by 26.1 percent.
Consequently, the foreign trade surplus amounted to $1.6 billion, which is 3.3 times lower than the previous year.
