The Initiative Group of the Georgian People's Assembly has appealed to Tbilisi City Hall to obtain a sanction to hold mass meetings on Rustaveli Avenue on Nov. 25.

"The government has strongly prevented us from holding the meeting," the Initiative Group told Trend. "There is no place in the city for people like Nona Gaprindashvili, Rezo Esadze and others."

The Initiative Group did not say how many delegates would attend the meeting.

According to the group, the number of delegates who will participate in the meeting will be made known after data is collected from all of the country's regions. Signatures will be collected by 1:00 p.m. on Nov.25. Roughly 13,000 delegates have so far registered.

The group also said the meeting on Rustaveli Avenue should not be equated with a rally.

"The authorities are trying to call a nationwide meeting a rally," the group said. "In fact, this is a public meeting on the capital's main avenue."

The meeting will be held on Nov. 25 at 3:00 p.m. in front of parliament.
