Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Ilhamgizi / A delegation of the Ago Monitoring Group of the Council of Europe (CE) Ministerial Committee which are on a visit in Baku have met with the leaders of the Azerbaijani opposition parties on 5 June.
The head of the Azerbaijan Liberal Party, Lala Shovkat, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Ali Karimov, and the head of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party, Sardar Jalaloghlu, attended the meeting.
According to Jalaloghlu, the leader of the opposition informed the guests of the social-political situation in Azerbaijan, of the state of human rights, freedom of meeting, freedom of speech, media in the country, as well as the problems regarding political prisoners and the detention of journalists.
"We reported on the state of the opposition in formation of the election commissions, of the obstacles for holding mass protests by the opposition, of the non-admission of the representatives of the opposition into electronic media, as well as of the non-fulfilment by the Public Television of Azerbaijan of the duties it had undertaken. I reported that even after the decision by the Azerbaijan Democratic Party to establish a dialogue with the authorities, their attitude towards us did not change," Jalaloghlu stated.
Azerbaijan's fulfilment of the obligations to the Council of Europe was discussed at the meeting.
