As part of Dubai Airshow 2025, Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), a subsidiary of AZCON Holding, has reaffirmed its commitment to the highest international flight safety standards, marking a new phase in both technological modernization and global aviation safety.
AZAL has signed an agreement with Leonardo, Italy’s leading producer in the defence and aerospace industry, for the acquisition and integration of next-generation meteorological radar systems.
Since 2006, the partnership between the two companies has steadily expanded through successful engineering, supply, and aviation projects, forming a solid foundation for the modernization of Azerbaijan’s aviation infrastructure based on European technologies.
The new-generation METEOR 735 C-Band radar system:
• detects extreme weather phenomena — hail, heavy precipitation, turbulence and wind shear — in real time with high precision;
• provides accurate analysis of atmospheric processes through its 200 km observation range, magnetron-type transmitter and high-resolution 3D/WEB visualization platform;
• enhances operational decision-making through Doppler and dual-polarization technologies.
These radar systems will significantly increase flight safety and operational resilience by enabling continuous monitoring of airport landing and take-off operations, early modelling of changing weather patterns and timely detection of hazardous atmospheric events.
In parallel with technological modernization, AZAL has joined the strategic partners of one of the most reputable global aviation safety organizations — the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) — obtaining one of the Foundation’s highest membership tiers, the “Benefactor Member” status.
Full participation in FSF programmes provides AZAL with:
• knowledge and experience exchange;
• risk analysis and adoption of advanced industry solutions;
• development of flight safety management systems;
• strengthening of safety culture;
• strategic opportunities contributing to the efficiency of the aviation industry both regionally and globally.
The “Benefactor Member” status is awarded to leading organizations that support the core initiatives of the Foundation and contribute to shaping global aviation safety standards. Holders of this status occupy a distinguished position among the world’s leading airlines, manufacturers and industry innovators.
These initiatives elevate the global safety commitments of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC to a new level and accelerate the forward-looking modernization of the country’s air transport system.
