ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 28. The Government of Kazakhstan has allocated approximately 250 million tenge (about $475,000) from its reserve fund for completing repair work on the heating networks in the city of Arkalyk, Kostanay region, Trend reports.
The corresponding resolution was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. The Arkalyk CHPP (Combined Heat and Power Plant) services 375 buildings and is listed among the heat sources in the "red zone" of risk due to the high level of wear and tear on its infrastructure.
The aggregate extent of the thermal distribution networks within the urban matrix measures 34.7 kilometers, predominantly originating from commissioning activities executed in the year 1990. Currently, the degradation metric stands at 48 percent, with certain segments exhibiting wear levels as high as 82 percent, resulting in thermal energy losses ranging from 24 to 29 percent throughout the heating cycle.
"Since 2023, the second phase of the reconstruction of heat sources has been underway in the city. To date, 17 km of heating networks have already been replaced. In 2025, another 9.9 km are planned for renewal. The work is being carried out in stages. Upon completion of the project, a 12 percent reduction in overall wear is expected," the statement said.
Moreover, in recent years, the city of Arkalyk has demonstrated positive dynamics in key areas of socio-economic development. The population is increasing, small and medium-sized businesses are becoming more active, and measures are being taken to improve conditions in education, healthcare, and social services.
As part of preparations for the 2024–2025 heating season, major repairs have been carried out on equipment, heating networks, and power transmission lines. To further reduce wear and tear, 22 reconstruction projects of heating pipelines with a total length of 27.9 km are being implemented in the region this year.
