Iran boosts honey production

The honey production in Iran increased by 24 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020) compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019), said director of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad Agriculture Expansion Project, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Ghaffari, Iran produced 112,000 tons of honey in the last Iranian year. However, this figure was 90,000 tons in the preceding Iranian year.

"Iran ranks fourth in terms of honey production after Turkey, China and Argentina," he said.

Ghaffari added that there was an increase of 34 percent in the pollen production, 77 percent in the propolis production and 53 percent in the beeswax production in the last Iranian year compared to the preceding Iranian year.

The official emphasized that the number of beehives in Iran increased by 26 percent last year compared to the previous year. Thus, the number of beehives has reached 10.6 million.

“Iran ranks 4th in the world after India, China and Turkey in terms of the number of beehives,” he said.
