BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14. The amount of wheat bought from Iranian farmers from April 10 through July 16 shot up by 850,000 tons (13 percent) compared to the same time frame last year, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Sohrab Sohrabi said, Trend reports.
According to him, 7.24 million tons of guaranteed wheat worth 1.27 quadrillion rials (about $3.24 billion) were purchased from farmers during the mentioned period.
Sohrabi added that 526 trillion rials (about $1.34 billion) have been paid to farmers so far, and the Ministry of Agriculture is taking steps to pay the rest.
The official of the ministry said that the most wheat was purchased from farmers in Khuzistan province of Iran, 1.62 million tons, 1.08 million tons in Gulistan province, 756 thousand tons in Fars province, 570 thousand tons in Kermanshah province, and 450 thousand tons in Razavi Khorasan province.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is guaranteed to be purchased by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
