The extraction has started from well No. 1 of the Sarkan Maleh Kuh oil field in the Pol Dokhtar county of Lorestan Province (western Iran), said Saeed Nasseripour, Managing of Director Iran's West Oil & Gas Production Company (WOGPC), Trend reports citing the company’s official website.
The director stressed that the company has started extraction due to its potential at about 6 billion rials (about $142,000).
Nasseripour added that the extraction from this well started for the first time in 1991.
The director noted that however, the extraction was suspended due to severe damage to equipment on the well as a result of the rains.
"As the water level in the Kashkan River decreased, wells and adjacent pipes were repaired," he said.
According to Nasseripour, the well contains about 900,000 barrels of crude oil.
Iran's West Oil & Gas Production Company operates under the auspices of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) in the Kermanshah, Ilam and Lorestan provinces.
At present, the Sarkan Maleh Kuh oil field in Iran produces 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day and after preliminary refining it is transported to the Afrine pumping station via a 21-kilometer-long 10-inch pipeline and from there to the Kermanshah Oil Refinery.
