BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. The installed capacity of Azerbaijan’s energy system reached 8.4 gigawatts (GW) across 98 power plants, representing an increase of 104.8 megawatts (MW), or 1.2 percent, in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Data obtained by Trend from the Ministry of Energy’s report on the work carried out in 2024 shows that the electric power system currently includes 22 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 6,623 MW, 58 hydropower plants (HPPs) with a total capacity of 1,406 MW, five wind power plants (63.62 MW), nine solar power plants (278 MW), one bioenergy power plant (37 MW), and three hybrid power plants (7.4 MW).
The total capacity of power plants based on renewable energy sources, including HPPs, is 1,792 MW, accounting for about 21.3 percent of the total generation capacity.
