ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 29. The collective sum of savings held by the citizens in Turkmenistan's banks reached 3.56 billion Turkmen manat as of January 1 of this year, equivalent to $1.02 billion, Trend reports.
According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, these figures are 19 percent more than on the same date last year (2.99 billion Turkmen manat, or $854.2 million).
Of the overall sum, deposits of the population in state commercial banks totaled 2.24 billion Turkmen manat ($640 million), reflecting 21 percent more than at the beginning of January 2023 (1.85 billion Turkmen manat, or $528.5 million).
At the same time, the share of deposits of the population in joint-stock commercial banks amounted to 1.32 billion Turkmen manat ($377.1 million), which is 16.8 percent more than compared to the same date in 2023 (1.13 billion Turkmen manat or $322.8 million).
Furthermore, deposits of the Turkmenistan's population in branches of foreign banks amounted to 400 million Turkmen manat ($114.5 million), which remained unchanged compared to the beginning of January last year.
