At present, Kazakh seven facilities with a total area of 1,600 hectares have the status of wetlands of international importance, Kazakhstan Today reported.

Kazakhstan finished a major project to prepserve wetlands. The project was implemented by the Global Environment Fund, jointly with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Kazakh government, official media said.

At present, Kazakh seven facilities with a total area of 1,600 hectares have the status of wetlands of international importance with the assistance of the project.

UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan Stephen Tull said that this project has become one of the most effective environmental and humanitarian projects in Central Asia. Its total budget was over $ 32 million.
