At least 85 policemen were injured and four seriously in the unrest Tuesday in the northern Kyrgyz town of Talas, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov said on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
Seventeen of the injured police officers were hospitalized, the prime minister told a press conference.
Omurbek Tekebayev, head of the main opposition party Ata-Meken party, and other four opposition leaders were arrested, he said, adding that eight opposition supporters were also detained.
Usenov said Deputy Prime Minister Akilbek Zhaparov and Interior Minister Moldomusa Kongantiyev were in Talas to deal with the unrest.
The Interior Ministry said the situation in Talas has been under control after around 1,000 people occupied the regional government building on Tuesday.
Kyrgyzstan, where Russia and the United States both have military bases, has been in a state of constant instability since President Kurmanbek Bakiyev came into power after the so-called Tulip Revolution in 2005.
