BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 8. The construction of a new modern terminal has commenced at Issyk-Kul International Airport in Kyrgyzstan, aiming to meet international standards and significantly increase passenger capacity, Trend reports.

Currently, the airport can accommodate 100 passengers per hour. However, the new terminal is designed to handle up to 450 passengers per hour, providing a boost to the airport's operational capabilities.

The three-story terminal building will cover an area of 18,400 square meters and will be equipped to serve passengers arriving at medium-haul aircraft.

The new complex will feature various facilities across its floors. The first floor is expected to house passenger check-in counters, customs and passport control areas, arrival halls, baggage claim, registration zones, and VIP/CIP arrival and departure areas.

The second floor will accommodate customs and passport control zones, departure halls, technical and administrative rooms, a cafeteria, and duty-free shops. The third floor will be dedicated to departure areas, administrative spaces, and other facilities.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, passenger transportation by air in Kyrgyzstan reached 264,100 people from January through March 2023, decreasing by near 13 percent year-on-year (303,100 people in 1Q2022).
