DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 12. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon announced that nearly 2 billion somoni ($187.5 million) of state funds were allocated for the construction of the first phase of the Rogun-Obigarm-Nurobod road, Trend reports.
The road will allow for connecting the capital with the districts of Nurobod, Rasht, Sangvor, Tojikobod, and Lakhsh, further serving as a gateway to Kyrgyzstan.
The first phase includes the construction of over 30 kilometers of road, five new bridges, the reconstruction of an existing bridge, and the building of two tunnels, each over three kilometers long. This phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to Rahmon.
The total cost of the second phase is estimated at 1.6 billion somoni ($150 million), which will fund 47 kilometers of road construction, six new bridges, the reconstruction of an existing bridge and a temporary bridge, and the Tagikamr tunnel, spanning 2.6 kilometers, set to open in early November.
There are also plans to construct a new 920-meter bridge over the Rogun reservoir, with design work already completed.
Rahmon stated that the full opening of the Rogun-Obigarm-Nurobod road will significantly improve passenger and cargo transport in the Rasht valley and enhance connectivity with international destinations.
