BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. The electricity production of Iran's thermal power plants increased by 3 percent during the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023), Director General of the Technical Affairs Department of Iran's Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) Esmaeil Namazi said, Trend reports.
According to him, the country's thermal power plants have produced more than 50 million megawatts of electricity during the past two months.
Namazi added that 30 million megawatts of electricity produced came from combined cycle plants, 11 million megawatts from steam plants, and 9 million megawatts from gas plants.
The official noted that under the current Iranian government (the current Iranian government has been in power since August 2021), 14 new power generation units have been commissioned. Due to the commissioning of this number of units, 3.25 bcm of fuel was saved during the year.
Furthermore, it should be noted that Iran's electricity generation potential at the end of the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) was 92,841 megawatt-hours. Of this, 81.5 percent was accounted for by thermal power plants.
A total of 617 units are operating at 135 thermal power plants in Iran. The electricity production potential of the country's thermal power plants exceeds 74,200 megawatt-hours.
To note, electricity production by Iran's thermal power plants (TPPs) in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) amounted to 346 million megawatts. In the last Iranian year, electricity production by the country's thermal power plants increased by 4 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
