Iran's imports of non-oil products increase

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. The import of non-oil products to Iran increased by 9.19 percent in value and 13.3 percent in weight during two months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through May 21, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration said, Trend reports.

A total of 5.84 million tons of products worth about $9.08 billion were imported to Iran during two months.

However, 5.16 million tons of products worth $8.31 billion were imported to Iran in the same period last year.

Furthermore, 1.83 million tons of non-essential goods (equipment, spare parts, etc.) worth $6.7 billion were imported during two months. Compared to the same period last year, it increased by 6.64 percent in value terms and decreased by 7.54 percent in weight terms.

For 2 months, 73.8 percent of imported products were secondary goods (equipment, spare parts, etc.), and 26.2 percent were essential goods (wheat, barley, etc.).

Meanwhile, according to the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration, in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), the country's product imports amounted to 39 million tons worth approximately $66.3 billion. The imports of products increased by 9.77 percent in value and 4.39 percent in weight compared to the previous year.

To note, Iran mainly focuses on importing the products required by the country and imposes certain restrictions on importing the products manufactured in the country.
