BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. A total of 2.35 million tons of guaranteed wheat worth 410 trillion rials (about $9.76 billion) were purchased from farmers in Iran from April 10 through May 28, 2024, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Sohrab Sohrabi said, Trend reports.
According to him, 23 trillion rials (about $548 million) have been paid to farmers so far in return for the purchased wheat.
The official noted that the country will harvest 13.5 to 14.5 million tons of wheat in the current year (from March 20, 2024, through March 2025), with about 11.5 to 12 million tons of wheat to be purchased with a guarantee from farmers.
Meanwhile, Iran plans to harvest wheat from 6 million ha this year. Of this area, 2 million ha are normal, and 4 million ha are cultivated lands.
To note, in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is purchased under the guarantee of the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
