BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 10. More than 3.6 million tons of guaranteed wheat worth 620 trillion rials (about $1.64 billion) were purchased from Iran's farmers from April 10 through June 8, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Sohrab Sohrabi said, Trend reports.
According to him, 50 percent of wheat bought from farmers with a guarantee - that is, 300 trillion rials (about $795 million)-has been paid to farmers.
The official noted that the remaining funds are scheduled to be paid out soon.
Sohrabi stated that 1.6 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in Khuzestan province, 700,000 tons in Golestan province, 350,000 tons in Pars province, and 280,000 tons in Ilam province.
Moreover, it is planned to harvest wheat from 6 million hectares in Iran this year. A total of 2 million hectares of this area are normal, and 4 million hectares are cultivated lands.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is guaranteed to be purchased by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
