BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 11. Iran is fully self-sufficient in wheat and therefore does not need to import it, Iranian Agriculture Minister Mohammad-Ali Nikbakht said, Trend reports.

According to him, a large amount of foreign currency is saved since Iran does not import wheat.

The Iranian minister noted that 4 million tons of guaranteed wheat were purchased from the country's farmers from April 10 through June 10, and the process of wheat purchase continues. Due to this, the volume of guaranteed wheat purchases will be higher than last year.

Furthermore, Iran plans to harvest wheat on 6 million hectares this year. Of this area, 2 million ha are normal, and 4 million ha are cultivated lands. It is planned to take at least 14 million tons of wheat.

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is guaranteed to be purchased by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
