BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. The amount of wheat bought from Iranian farmers from April 10 through June 16 shot up by 200,000 tons compared to the same time frame last year, Iran's Deputy Minister of Agriculture Alireza Mohajer said, Trend reports.
According to him, 4.4 million tons of guaranteed wheat were purchased from farmers during the period mentioned.
Mohajer noted that the value of the purchased wheat amounted to 770 trillion rials (about $2.03 billion). To date, 300 trillion rials (about $790 million) have been repaid to farmers. The rest of the funds are being paid gradually.
The deputy minister added that wheat is currently being purchased from farmers in 25 provinces of the country. The largest amount of wheat was bought from farmers in Khuzestan province (1.6 million tons), Golestan Province - 940,000 tons), Pars Province (450,000 tons), and Ilam Province (280,000 tons).
''In addition to the mentioned amount of wheat, 170 thousand tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers for sowing,'' he added.
Mohajer stated that 1,150 procurement centers are going up around the nation.
Moreover, it is planned to harvest wheat from 6 million hectares in Iran this year (2 million hectares are conventional areas and 4 million hectares are agricultural lands). At least 14 million tons of wheat are planned to be harvested.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is guaranteed to be purchased by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
