BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 1. Wheat in Iran was purchased with guarantee from farmers, mainly in Khuzestan, Golestan, and Fars provinces, from April 10 to June 30, the statement of Iran's State Trading Company said, Trend reports.
According to the report, about 1.62 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers worth 285 trillion rials (about $723 million) in Khuzestan province, 1.03 million tons worth 180 trillion rials (about $456 million) in Golestan province, and 692,000 tons worth 120 trillion rials (about $304 million) in Fars province during the mentioned period.
A total of 210 trillion rials (about $533 million) was paid to farmers in return for wheat purchased in Khuzestan province, 80 trillion rials (about $203 million) in Golestan province, and 34 trillion rials (about $86.2 million) in Fars province.
In this period, 58 percent of the guaranteed wheat purchased in the country belonged to these 3 provinces.
During the mentioned period, 5.64 million tons of wheat worth 1 quadrillion rials (about 2.54 billion dollars) were guaranteed to be purchased from the farmers of the country. Overall, more than 60 percent of the funds for the purchased wheat have been paid to the farmers, and the process of payment of the remaining funds is still ongoing.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is purchased guaranteed by the state trading company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
Six million hectares of wheat fields will be harvested by Iran this year. Two million hectares are undeveloped land, and four million hectares are farmland.
