BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6. A total of 6.3 million tons of wheat worth 1.11 quadrillion rials (about $2.85 billion) were guaranteed to be purchased from Iranian farmers from April 10 through July 5, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Sohrab Sohrabi said, Trend reports.
According to him, the total of 526 trillion rials (about $1.35 billion) of wheat purchased during the mentioned period, i.e., 47 percent, has been paid to farmers, and the rest is planned to be paid shortly.
The representative of the ministry stated that the largest amount of wheat is in Iran's Khuzestan province with 1.62 million tons, Golestan province with about 1.05 million tons, Fars province with 725,000 tons, Kermanshah province with 432,000 tons, Razavi Khorasan province with 375,000 tons, and Ilam province with 332,000 tons.
Sohrabi noted that about 4.46 million tons of wheat were purchased from the country's farmers during the same period last year. This indicates an increase of 1.84 million tons, i.e., 41 percent.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
