BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 13. Some 222,000 tons of guaranteed wheat worth 38.9 trillion rials (about $99.3 million) were purchased from farmers in Ardabil province, located in northwestern Iran, from June 5 through July 12, the official of the branch of Iran's State Trading Company in Ardabil Province Vadoud Iranian said, Trend reports.

According to him, a total of 46 procurement centers have been established in Ardabil Province for the guaranteed purchase of wheat from farmers.

Iranian added that during the current year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), wheat has been sown on 275,000 hectares of land in Ardabil Province.

"In recent years, wheat exports in Ardabil Province have increased to 600,000 tons. However, over the past 2 years, drought and unfavorable weather conditions have reduced the wheat harvest by more than 50 percent," he added.

Furthermore, it should be noted that 4.5 million tons of agricultural products are grown annually in Ardabil Province. About 750,000 tons of potatoes, 450,000 tons of garden products, and so on are grown in this province.

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
