Iran discloses volume of guaranteed wheat purchased in Mazandaran Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 17. A total of 104,000 tons of wheat were guaranteed to be purchased from farmers in Mazandaran Province in northern Iran from April 10 through August 17, the director general of a branch of Iran's state-run Mazandaran Trading Company Abbas-Ali Vafainejad told reporters, Trend reports.

He claims that a whopping 11 trillion rials (about $27 million) have been forked over to farmers in exchange for the bought wheat. The remaining funds are also expected to be coughed up shortly.

Vafainejad added that Mazandaran Province consumes 470,000–480,000 tons of flour. During the current year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 268,000 tons of wheat have been imported to the province. Besides, 17,000 tons of wheat have been imported to the province via the northern ports of the country and 15,000 tons through the ports of the southern region.

To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).

Meanwhile, 11.3 million tons of wheat worth about 2 quadrillion rials (about $4.9 billion) was purchased from Iran's farmers from April 10 through August 15.
