BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. The volume of guaranteed purchased wheat from farmers in Iran increased by 16 percent, in other words, by 1.59 million tons, compared to the same period last year, from April 10 through August 18 (2024), the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Sohrab Sohrabi said, Trend reports.
According to him, 11.5 million tons of wheat worth 2.03 quadrillion rials (about $4.99 billion) was guaranteed purchased from farmers during the mentioned period. To date, 942 trillion rials (about $2.32 billion) have been paid to farmers. The remaining funds are also expected to be paid soon.
The official noted that during the mentioned period the majority of wheat was purchased in Khuzestan province - 1.62 million tons, Kurdistan province - 1.1 million tons, Golestan province - 1.1 million tons, Fars province - 911,000 tons, Kermanshah province - 816,000 tons, Hamadan province - 686,000 tons, West Azerbaijan Province - 619,000 tons, Razavi Khorasan province - 517,000 tons, Lorestan province 512,000 tons, East Azerbaijan province 482,000 tons.
Sohrabi added that the process of guaranteed wheat purchase is currently underway in 12 of the country's 31 provinces.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
