BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 15. The volume of guaranteed purchased wheat from farmers in Iran increased by 1.62 million tons from April 11 through September 12, compared to the same period last year; otherwise, by 16 percent, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture, Sohrab Sohrabi told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, more than 11.9 million tons of wheat worth 2.1 quadrillion rials (about $4.88 billion) were purchased with guarantee from farmers during the mentioned period.
He emphasized that 1.61 quadrillion rials (about $3.73 billion) have been paid to the farmers so far in exchange for the purchased wheat. The remaining funds are also being repaid as soon as possible.
The official noted that the majority of guaranteed purchased wheat was produced in Khuzestan province - 1.62 million tons, Kurdistan province - 1.16 million tons, Golestan province - 1.11 million tons, Fars province - 914,000 tons, Kermanshah province - 825,000 tons, Hamadan province - 705,000 tons, West Azerbaijan province - 670,000 tons, East Azerbaijan province - 595,000 tons, Lorestan province - 536,000 tons, and Razavi Khorasan province - 523,000 tons.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
