Iran pulls back curtain on purse strings opened for wheat farmers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. A total of 1.95 quadrillion rials (about $4.37 billion) have been paid to wheat farmers in Iran as of today (October 26), the head of the National Wheat Farmers Foundation of Iran, Ataollah Hashemi told local media, Trend reports.

According to him, Iran's planning and budgeting institution announced that the remaining 170 trillion rials (about $381 million) will be paid by October 29. Thus, farmers will receive more than 2.11 quadrillion rials (about $4.73 billion) in exchange for the purchased wheat.

Hashemi added that they guaranteed to purchase about 12 million tons of wheat from Iranian farmers from April 10 through September 21. The volume of purchased wheat increased by 16 percent compared to the same period last year.

The largest amount of wheat was guaranteed purchased from farmers in Khuzestan Province 1.62 million tons, Kurdistan Province 1.17 million tons, Golestan Province 1.11 million tons, Fars Province 918,000 tons, Kermanshah Province 825,000 tons, Hamadan Province 706,000 tons, West Azerbaijan Province 675,000 tons, East Azerbaijan Province 603,000 tons, Lorestan Province 540,000 tons, and Razavi Khorasan Province 528,000 tons.

Note that the State Trading Company guaranteed the purchase of 1 kg of wheat in Iran during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025) for 175,000-180,000 rials (about $4.17-$4.3).
