BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 28. Iran has harvested a total of 128,000 tons of honey in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture contractor Hossein Akbarpour told reporters, Trend reports.

In a discourse with regional press outlets, Akbarpour articulated that this honey was harvested from a substantial network of 92,122 apicultural enterprises.

Akbarpour further elucidated that Iran occupies the fourth position on a global scale in the domain of apiculture output.

“The Ministry of Agriculture provides support to beekeeping farms, particularly in situations involving drought, sudden rainfall, or sandstorms, by allocating 20 kilograms of sugar per hive annually. Under normal conditions, 10 kilograms of sugar per hive is sufficient,” he said.

The official also mentioned that improving the quantity and quality of agricultural products and ensuring food security are key objectives, with the support of beekeeping farms being a central focus of agricultural authorities across all of Iran’s provinces.

To note, Iran's beekeeping farms have expanded in recent years. Two years ago, 115,000 tons of honey were produced, and the figure has since risen. The training of beekeepers and the growth of honey production remain important priorities in the country. Iran can annually export between 5,000 and 10,000 tons of honey.
