Iran's Fars Province railway exports soar in recent months

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2.​ The volume of goods loaded for export at railway stations in Fars Province, located in southern Iran, increased by 48 percent during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Mehrdad Ansari, the head of the province's Railway Administration, told reporters, Trend reports.

Speaking to local media, Ansari stated that in the past year, 559,000 tons of goods were loaded at the railway stations for export.

The official further noted that the goods were transported using 8,590 wagons, setting a record for the province since the railway service began.

He also mentioned that the volume of goods loaded for export exceeded the planned target by 146 percent.

The length of railway lines in Iran is 14,984 kilometers. A total of 993 locomotives, 29,950 freight cars, and 2,178 passenger wagons are operating on Iran's railroad lines.
