Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 9
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A conference will be held on Sept. 12 in Tehran on investment opportunities in Iran and other Caspian Sea states.
Head of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Assadollah Asgaroladi referred to 70 years of relations between Iran and Russia, saying that the conference aims to find ways to remove hurdles for boosting bilateral trade, Iran's chamber of commerce website reported Sept. 9.
Trade ties with neighboring countries, such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and Turkey have surpassed $10 billion, but trade with Russia has never passed $3 billion, Asgaroladi said.
Banking, transport, and visa issuance problems have hindered the two-way trade, he noted.
Iranian companies can cooperate with Russia partners in the areas of agriculture, carpet, machinery, and detergents, he said.
Russia was the 18th leading importer of Iranian non-oil goods in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2015, according to the Iran Customs Administration.
Iran exported $296.5 million of non-oil goods to Russia and imported $667.1 million of non-oil goods from the country.
