Haldor Topsoe, a Danish catalysis company, terms the coming years as “decisive” for Iran’s petrochemical industry.
“The next years will be decisive in terms of how things develop, also in terms of projects, especially in petrochemical industry,” Jens Ole Madsen, the head of Haldor Topsoe branch in Iran, told Trend.
Speaking about the company’s business in Iran, he said Haldor Topsoe is currently cooperating with Iranians on developing Marjan methanol project, which is supposed to go into operation within the next six months.
Earlier in 2009, Haldor Topsoe inked a 500 million euros agreement with Iran for supply of technology for methanol plants, which was later halted due to the Western-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
According to Jens Ole Madsen, Haldor Topsoe has brought technology for producing ammonia and methanol in Iran.
Speaking about Iran’s competitiveness in the global market, he said there is need for investment in the country’s petrochemical area, but Iranians are now catching up and the country will be fully updated in the coming few years in terms of technology.
“The country is establishing new projects that come up with the latest technology and by that Iran can be producing low-cost commodities so they are cost-efficient,” he added.
Iran has drawn up plans for developing 64 petrochemical plants across the country by 2021, which in total require $40 billion of investment.
