People, who live in border areas of Iran and Azerbaijan have a long-standing relationship, and due to location of the Araz river, security and welfare of the two countries have increased, Managing Director of water company in Iran's West Azerbaijan Province Yousef Ghafarzadeh told Trend in an interview.
He added that management of border rivers is important, noting that friendly and joint operation of the Araz river dam is 'an achievement on international level'.
"While some countries may have disputes over border rivers, Iran's and Azerbaijan's joint launch of the Araz river dam was the point of pride between the two countries," he said.
"Joint operation of the river would be an important point for Iran's West Azerbaijan Province in terms of production and agricultural development," he said.
"The compliance of the two countries to protocols led to joint operation of the Araz river, without any disagreements, which is unique," said Ghafarzadeh.
Iran and Azerbaijan marked a 50-year anniversary of water cooperation by joint operation of Araz river dam and the Mil Moghan dam.
