BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 13. Iran's total citrus fruit exports via the country's Mazandaran province grew in the first nine months of this year (from March 20 through December 20, 2024), the Director of the Mazandaran Province Agricultural Department Babak Momeni told reporters, Trend reports.
Momeni said that about this figure reached 90,000 tons against 87,000 tons in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024).
He pointed out that currently, 60 percent of the citrus orchards in the province have been harvested.
The official explained that despite the serious threat posed by pests and insects, an increase has been observed as a result of efforts to combat these issues.
"Investments in citrus fruit processing in the province, as well as the creation of terminals for trading local products, could lead to development in this sector," he added.
To note, Mazandaran province has 112,000 hectares of citrus orchards, of which 110,000 hectares are productive. Of the province's citrus orchards, 80,000 hectares are dedicated to various types of oranges, 30,000 hectares to mandarins, and the remaining area is used for other citrus fruits.
