Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger is scheduled to travel to Libya on the weekend to reopen the Austrian embassy and to establish a foothold for his country's businesses, a company taking part in the trip confirmed Friday.

Spindelegger will meet with the leadership of the National Transitional Council, which has taken over from Libya's fugitive leader Moamer Gaddafi, Austrian press agency APA reported, dpa reported.

Representatives of oil and gas group OMV are to participate in the visit that starts Sunday, to gauge the situation before restarting oil pumping in 12 to 18 months, a company spokesman said.
