The wife of Oscar-nominated entertainer Bill Murray has filed for divorce alleging that the actor beat her, conducted sexual liaisons with other women and was addicted to marijuana and alcohol, dpa reported.
The Charleston Post and Courier said that Jennifer Butler Murray filed the papers May 12 in Charleston County court, which has since sealed the documents.
The couple married in 1997 and have four children. The report said the complaint did not specify instances of substance abuse but alleged that the 57-year-old actor often left without telling his wife and that he "travels overseas where he engages in public and private altercations and sexual liaisons."
The complaint alleged that last November Murray "hit her in the face and then told her she was 'lucky he didn't kill her.'"
Murray, the star of movies such as Ghostbusters, Caddyshack and Groundhog Day, was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Lost in Translation.
According to the report, the couple has a prenuptial agreement whereby Murray agrees to pay his ex-wife 7 million dollars within 60 days of a final divorce decree.
