The decline of gas production in Azerbaijan in August 2015 in comparison with the other months is due to the stoppage of the platform at Shah Deniz largest gas field for planned maintenance work, a source in the SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) told Trend Oct.9.

The source said that SOCAR itself has maintained a stable level of gas production in August.

"The changes have affected performance in Azerbaijan as a whole, while the production of SOCAR has been at a stable level," said the source. "This is due to the fact that in August, the BP company stopped production at the Shah Deniz field, which was taken into account in the annual production forecast."

The work of the Shah Deniz platform in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea was suspended for 20 days starting from August 2 due to planned maintenance work.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) produced 4.58 billion cubic meters of gas in January-August 2015 or by 7.7 percent (4.96 billion cubic meters) less than in the same period of 2014.

Around 18.99 billion cubic meters of gas were produced in Azerbaijan in January-August 2015, which is 7.1 percent less than in January-August 2014 (20.44 billion cubic meters).
