Georgia, Tbilisi, April 14 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia /
On April 14, the Greek Ambassador to Georgia Georghios Hadzimihelakis submitted a draft proposal to the Foreign Ministry of Georgia to extend the mandate of the OSCE mission, prepared by the Permanent Council of the Organization. The proposals were handed over to the Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Alexander Nalbandov, Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.
Draft proposals on the prospects for the activities of the OSCE were developed by Greece, which is the country chairing the Organization. This project has been submitted to all OSCE member countries.
During the meeting was stated that because of the need to continue the work of the OSCE mission in Georgia, the sides are prepared to work constructively to achieve that goal.
The mandate of the OSCE in Georgia, where the organization has worked since 1992, expired on January 1, 2009. On December 22, 2008 at the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, Russia did not agree upon its extension, saying that the current mandate of "the Georgian mission" includes the Abkhazian and South Ossetian components, and therefore should be reconsidered.
