Azerbaijani NGOs Use Personal Contacts to Assist Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi, 3 September / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia /Azerbaijani NGOs use their personal contacts to assist Georgia. For this purpose a meeting was held with attendance of Azerbaijani and Georgian NGOs in the 'Open society -Georgian' Fund.

Ali Babayev, Chairman of Georgian Azerbaijanis Congress, said to journalists that the meeting's goal was to define concrete plans on the issue. Besides humanitarian aid the issue is to search missed people as a result of interference of Russian troops. Representatives of Azerbaijani NGOs have close contacts with Abkhaz and Ossetin NGOs and use these contacts to render aid to Georgia.

At the night of 8 August, large-scale military operations were launched in the self-declared South Ossetia republic. The Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later the Russian troops entered the city and drove the Georgian forces back to the Georgian territory.

On 12 August, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has decided to end operations to compel Georgia to peace.

It was decided to keep Russian peacekeepers and international observers in the territory of Georgia.
