BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 5. Azerbaijan's trade turnover with European Union (EU) countries amounted to $19.6 billion in 2024.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that this figure decreased by 21.1 percent ($5.2 billion) from 2023 ($24.8 billion).
Last year, Azerbaijan was in the thick of it, racking up export
operations worth $16.8 billion with the EU countries, which was a
bit of a drop in the bucket—$5 billion, or 23 percent less than the
year before. On the flip side, import operations came in at $2.8
billion, down $200 million or 6.7 percent from the previous year,
compared to a hefty $21.8 billion in exports and $3 billion in
imports the year prior.
During the reporting period, the cream of the crop in trade
turnover were Italy, Czechia, and Croatia.
The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Italy amounted to $11.4 billion (a decrease of $4.3 billion or 27.3 percent year-on-year), with $10.88 billion in exports and $0.52 billion in imports. Compared to the previous year, exports to Italy decreased by $4.3 billion or 28.2 percent, and imports from Italy dropped by $37.8 million or 7.9 percent.
In the reporting period, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Czechia amounted to $1.15 billion (an increase of $386 million or 50.3 percent year-on-year). Exports to Czechia reached $1.09 billion (an increase of $404 million or 59 percent compared to the previous year), while imports from Czechia were $64.8 million (a decrease of $18 million or 22 percent).
Croatia snagged the bronze medal, racking up a trade turnover of $878 million, which is a hefty jump of $283 million or 47.6 percent from last year. Exports to Croatia hit the jackpot at $873 million, a whopping increase of $283 million, or 47.9 percent. On the flip side, imports from Croatia came in at $5.3 million, climbing by $0.5 million, or 11 percent.
