ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 10. Kazakhstan’s Bureau of National Statistics reports that in January 2025, the country produced 9,606 motor vehicles of various types, with a combined value of 126.7 billion tenge (around $253.4 million), which marks a 15.6 percent decrease from the 11,376 units and 149.1 billion tenge (roughly $298.2 million) produced in the same month last year.
Data obtained by Trend shows that the total value of the automotive industry’s output accounted for 43.1 percent of the entire machine engineering sector. In January, 8,929 passenger cars were produced (-13.2 percent less than the same period of the last year), 237 trucks (-57 percent), 171 buses (-28.8 percent), 231 semi-trailers and trailers, and 38 units of special equipment.
"The share of the automotive industry in the structure of machine engineering reached 43 percent by the end of January. The year 2025 has been declared the Year of Vocational Professions in Kazakhstan, which is particularly significant for the industry. This year, the launch of new enterprises will require the involvement of about 5,000 specialists. In 2025, investments in enterprise modernization continue, including increasing localization. In the coming years, with the opening of new productions and related enterprises, the demand for qualified personnel will only grow," said Anar Makasheva, president of the Kazakhstan Automotive Union.
Moreover, according to the Kazakhstan Automotive Union, as of January, in Kazakhstan’s Almaty (Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan, Hyundai Trans Almaty), 4,875 passenger and commercial vehicles were produced. In Kostanay (Allur), 4,180 units of equipment were produced In the Karaganda region (QazTehna), 151 units of equipment were produced. In Semey (SemAZ, Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan), 118 units of commercial equipment were produced. In Kokshetau (KAMAZ-Engineering), 30 units of commercial equipment were produced.
The top five most popular car brands produced in January 2025 in Kazakhstan are: Hyundai (4,796 units), Chevrolet (1,315 units), Jetour (1,225 units), Kia (1,176 units), and Skoda (236 units). In terms of models, the total production included: Hyundai Tucson (1,835 units), Chevrolet Cobalt (1,308 units), Hyundai Mufasa (1,051 units), Jetour X70 (625 units), Kia Sportage (562 units), and Hyundai Santa Fe (511 units).
