ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 22. The International Gas Union (IGU) plans to actively promote the role of gas in meeting growing global energy needs and ensuring sustainable development, IGU President Andrea Stegher said during the 30th Anniversary International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2025,” Trend's special correspondent reports.

According to him, the IGU brings together about 140 members from 70 countries, covering about 90 percent of the global gas market, and serves as a platform for the exchange of technical knowledge and experience through 14 specialized committees supported by approximately 500 industry volunteers.

“Gas today provides a quarter of the world's energy demand. To meet growing needs, effective investment, technology development, and cooperation between public and private entities are needed,” Steger said.

He emphasized that the IGU advocates a comprehensive approach to sustainable development that takes into account energy security, resource availability, and climate goals. The union also promotes the concept of “gas capital,” recognizing the need for different energy solutions for different regions of the world.

“We are happy to discuss opportunities for cooperation, exchange experiences, and open new horizons for international partnership in the gas industry,” added the IGU president.
