Azerbaijan, Baku, July 25 / Trend A. Akhundov /
The State Company Azersu (Azerbaijani water operator) has signed a contract with the Turkish company "ALKE Muh. İns. San" to reconstruct water supply and sewerage system in Azerbaijani Agdash town, the operator said today.
Turkish company won the international tender announced within the "Investment Programme for Water Supply and Sewerage System", funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Azerbaijani government.
According to the project, two sub-artesian wells with a depth of 140 meters each will be dug, power lines will be laid and transformers will be installed to provide Agdash with drinking water.
It is planned to build two reservoirs each with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters within the project. Water lines with the length of 134 kilometers will be laid to reconstruct the water distribution network in the city. About 7,600 subscribers will be provided with water meters.
It is planned to lay sewerage lines with a total length of 121 km.
The total cost of the investment program is $600 million. A multitranche package (MFF) was approved for its financing in September 2009. The first loan from the MFF has been allocated to the amount of $ 75 million to continue working in Goychay and Nakhchivan, and the second tranche - $ 300 million (for the reconstruction of networks in Agdash, Agjabadi, Beylagan and Balakan regions). The bank plans to approve the third tranche worth $ 175 million on December 31, 2012.
Multitranche financing became the basis for eight-year collaboration between the ADB and the Azerbaijani government, taking into account the phased investments, supported by the strategy and program of reforms in water supply and sewerage system.
