At present, Azerbaijan exports gas worth 13 million cubic meters daily to Turkey within development of offshore gas-condensate field Shah Deniz, a governmental source said.

"Now about 13 million cubic meters of gas are exported to Turkey per day," a source said.

SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said that this year Turkey will receive a contracted annual amount of gas worth 6.6 billion cubic meters from gas-condensate offshore field Shah Deniz in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan and Turkey hold talks on the cost of the Azerbaijani gas to Turkey under the first and second stages of Shah Deniz field, as well as the possibility of transit of gas by Azerbaijan via Turkey. All issues are discussed in the package. It delays the process of reaching an agreement between the parties.

Peak production from the field in the first stage of development is projected at 8,6-9 billion cubic meters. It is projected that in the second stage of field development, gas production may be brought up to 25 billion cubic meters a year.

Gas produced from Shakh Deniz field is transported to Georgia and Turkey.

Shakh Deniz field's reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas.

The contract to develop Shah Deniz was signed June 4, 1996. Participants to the agreement are: BP (operator) - 25.5 percent, Statoil Hydro - 25.5 percent, NICO - 10 percent, Total - 10 percent, LukAgip - 10 percent, TPAO - 9 percent, and SOCAR - 10 percent.
