Seismic acquisition completed at Azerbaijan’s Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara

The seismic acquisition has been completed at Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara (ADUA) in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, Norway’s Equinor company told Trend.

The company said that currently, the results of the seismic survey are being evaluated.

Moreover, Equinor said that Dada Gorgud semi-submersible drilling rig, owned by Caspian Drilling Company Limited (CDC), has started drilling in KPS-4 well of the Karabakh field, without providing further information.

“We are planning to drill the Aypara exploration straight after the well at Karabakh is completed,” saud tge company.

On March 13, 2019, Azerbaijan’s Caspian Drilling Company Ltd. (CDC) and Norwegian Equinor Azerbaijan Karabakh BV (Equinor) signed a contract for the drilling services at Karabakh field of Azerbaijan.

In accordance with the contract, CDC will drill for Equinor two wells on the Karabakh oilfield, where Equinor serves as project Operator for Karabakh field development with participation of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR. Equinor and SOCAR each holds 50 percent stake in the project.

Karabakh was discovered as a prospective offshore structure as a result of seismic survey in 1959. The field is located in 120 kilometers to the East from Baku at a sea depth of 150-200 meters.

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Statoil Azerbaijan (part of the Equinor group) signed a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) for the Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara (ADUA) exploration area on May 30, 2018.

The ADUA exploration area is located around 50 kilometers east of Baku, around 14 kilometers to the east of Azerbaijani mainland (Absheron peninsula), and approximately 7 kilometers to the east of Azerbaijan’s Pirallahi and Chilov islands, in water depth varying between 20 and 225 meters.
